Behind the Craft: How Our Fox Fur Coats Are Made

The Art and Craft Behind Every FOXFUR JACKETS Coat

Every real fox fur coat we make is the result of dozens of hours of skilled handwork, careful material selection, and a deep commitment to craft that has been refined over decades. Here's a behind-the-scenes look at how our fox fur coats are made—from raw pelt to finished garment.

Step 1: Pelt Selection

Everything begins with the raw material. Our team hand-selects fox pelts, grading each one for color consistency, fur density, guard hair length, and pelt condition. Only pelts that meet our quality standards are approved for production. For custom orders, pelts are selected specifically to match the client's color and texture requirements.

Step 2: Pattern Making

Once pelts are selected, our pattern makers create the template for the coat—accounting for the natural dimensions of each pelt and the silhouette being constructed. Precision at this stage is critical: poorly designed patterns result in wasted material and inconsistent finish quality.

Step 3: Cutting

Each pelt is cut by hand according to the pattern. For our most refined styles, the letting-out technique is used: each pelt is cut into narrow diagonal strips and resewn at a slight angle, creating a longer, more fluid piece of fur that drapes elegantly. This technique is the hallmark of luxury fur construction and requires significant skill and time to execute correctly.

Step 4: Matching & Assembly

Cut fur pieces are carefully matched and assembled, ensuring consistency of color and pattern direction across the entire coat. This stage requires a skilled eye and years of experience—subtle mismatches in fur direction or color can undermine the entire garment.

Step 5: Sewing & Blocking

The assembled fur is sewn together on the leather side, then dampened and stretched over a blocking board to set the final shape. This process—known as blocking—ensures the coat retains its intended silhouette after construction.

Step 6: Lining & Finishing

The lining (acrylic as standard; custom materials available upon request) is cut and sewn separately, then hand-fitted to the fur shell. Closures, hooks, and any additional hardware are attached. The finished coat undergoes a final quality inspection before it is approved for shipping.
